Open Net’s Jiyoun Choe attended the 2019 Annual Conference hosted by the Family Online Safety Institute(FOSI) on November 21, 2019.

The annual conference, entitled “2020 Vision: The Future of Online Safety”, convened stakeholders across government, academia, nonprofit, and industry to discuss best practice in technology policy, privacy, artificial intelligence, ethics, and more.

The conference started with the launch of a new whitepaper, Online Safety in the Age of Artificial Intelligence. The main themes of the paper transitioned into the rest of the discussions held during the conference, where the need to connect the emerging technological innovations of artificial intelligence with actions needed to advance responsible actions online by all parties involved were discussed in depth.

Sessions throughout the rest of the day included discussions on the Children’s Online Privacy Act, social media’s enduring effect on adolescent life satisfaction, combating illegal material online, and online safety legislation, among others.

The conference provided a wonderful setting for various stakeholders to get together and share their expertise in ensuring that the internet continues to provide inspiration for innovation while keeping its users safe.
