A research report titled “A Study on the Active-Duty Military Service of Transgender Individuals”, which the Ministry of National Defense had previously kept classified citing "national security and national defense," has been made public.
In February, the non-profit organization Open Net filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for the report. However, after the Korea Institute for Defense Analyses decided to withhold it under Article 9, Paragraph 1, Item 2 of the Official Information Disclosure Act, Open Net filed an administrative lawsuit seeking to overturn that decision. Following this, the Ministry of National Defense disclosed the report, finally bringing the previously undisclosed findings of the study to light.
